About my paintings ....
An often asked question is .... 'what subjects do you paint?' .. I always find this hard to answer because my paintings are not about the subject and to suggest that would put them in a totally different painting category.
My painting are mostly intuitive and through this process a painting will slowly develop with the outcome often including some element or elements that the viewer can certainly recognise and it is only during the painting process that the outcome will become obvious to me.
Having lived so much of my life at the beach I find that this often does influence my work as do the wonderful trees found around here on the mountain ranges of Toowoomba.
The inclusion of people is not uncommon as are our feathered friends - birds..
So finally, it is through the use of colour, light, tone and structure that my final image will show its face. (I must mention here that occasionally I decide to paint a location or image from the start - even my own rules can be broken!)
Finally, I am over the moon when a viewer talks about one of my paintings with their own voice - I love to hear their story!
I live and paint in Toowoomba amid a very active and energetic cultural scene.
- well it was until Covid 19 .... I hope everyone is still painting at home even though competitions have been cancelled, galleries have been closed, exhibitions...... well some of them have gone 'on line' and it has been very encouraging finding that people have realised the importance of having original art on their walls to actually enjoy living with. Original paintings certainly do add another dimension to 'living' in your space. Just find the image you love and go from there.
I enjoy supporting a number of organisations and find local school art exhibitions a very worthy cause. Toowoomba Grammar Art exhibition went on line this year and did extremely well - my two paintings sold and I received a wonderful message from the lady who bought 'Colours of November' .... thank you so much !!..... messages like that warm the heart!.
If you enjoy art and would like to be notified of my future exhibitions, please join my mailing list below and I will forward an invitation.. I have managed at least one solo exhibition each year for the last four years - this year though has had to be cancelled. As one of the five feature artists (5x5) five of my paintings will be sent out to the Taroom Art Show to be held at the end of September .. then there will be Downlands Art Show on line during Carnival week in Toowoomba. The Art Society also holds their members' exhibition in September.. I will keep you posted.
