A little about Diana Battle

I was born and lived in Brisbane for 20 years before moving to New Guinea to work for The Department of Treasury in Port Moresby and then The South Pacific Post (the local newspaper).

My father (a professional photographer) had always encouraged me to actually 'see'. I guess the drives in the country with him were actually my first lessons. He would talk about the sky and the clouds - how the colour changes - perspective - atmosphere and so on. This was an exciting way to view the world. 

Marriage and children followed and being able to spend 1977 overseas (while my husband was studying) gave me the opportunity to visit and revisit the wonderful galleries in London, France and Italy. In recent years I have added more galleries to the list and this has contributed greatly to my ongoing art education.

In 1984 our family of six (four children) moved to Toowoomba where I would paint whenever I found the time.

My then painting area consisted of shelving, an ironing board and a stool.  This worked well as the ironing board was the perfect height ... I now have a 'garage' studio!

2024  Awarded the Fred and Anne Gardiner Award for the best artwork
           at the Member's September Spring Exhibition.
           The DNA Exhibition for the month of June with daughter Anna.
2023 The Nancy Culliford award for 'Coastal Wetland' and a
          Highly Commended at the Toowoomba Art Society Members'
          Exhibition in September.
2023 'Family Ties' exhibition during July (shared with daughter Anna).
2022  Awarded the Fred and Anne Gardiner Award for the best artwork

2021  Highly Commended for 'Gum Leaf Chorus' - Toowoomba Art 
          Society Members' Exhibition.

2019   Solo exhibition - Toowoomba - 'A Weekend in November'
           Feature Artist at the Downlands Art Exhibition, Toowoomba.
           Two paintings acquired ...  one by the Regional Council from The             Contemporary Art Exhibition - Inverell Regional Gallery. 
           Aspects Art Show  - two paintings received an Acquisition

           First Price - Still Life - Toowoomba RNA Art Competition
2018  Solo Exhibition - Toowoomba - 'The Winter Exhibition'  
           Aspects Art Show Goondiwindi. My four paintings each
          received an Acquisition Award. 'Cooling Off at the Beach',
          'Lily Pond',  'Agapanthus and Jacaranda' and 'Autumn
          on the Granite Belt' received a New Exhibitor award and a
          Highly Commended in the Landscape.
         Gallery finalist in the Brisbane Lethbridge 10,000 Art Award -
